Put-in-Bay, Ohio is located on South Bass Island in the western basin of Lake Erie,
aproximately 60 miles west of Cleveland and 45 miles east of Toledo. Referred to as the
"Walleye Capital of the World", PutinBay and its surrounding Lake Erie waters,
is a year round fishing hot spot for both walleye and perch. In the early spring,
fishermen travel to PutinBay, literally, by the boat load. The Miller Ferry, one of
the two commercial ferry boat services, brings people, cars, cars trailing boats,
and sometimes even houses to the island. It is not uncommon in the spring, to see the Miller
Ferry boats filled with fishermen and their boats, heading to Put-in-Bay for a weekend
fishing trip. The other boat line is the Jet Express which leaves from dowtown Port Clinton,
and carries passengers only. In the winter, ice fishing , for both walleye and perch,
is also popular at PutinBay, and many of the Bed and Breakfasts specifically cater to fishermen,
offering winter rates and specials.
